Beside
pure level measurement, the guided microwave
principle also allows the detection of a
distinct liquid interface. The VEGAFLEX
67 sensor detects both the total level and
the interface. This information enables
extraction or recycling processes to be
optimised and automated, for example.
The upper product layer must not be electrically
conductive and must have a homogenous
composition. Also, the dielectric constant
should have a known, stable value. The
only requirement on the lower product
is that it must have a higher dielectric
constant (DK) by a value of 10 than the
upper product. Typical areas of application
are oil/water or solvent separators or
in liquid gas tanks (LPG), where the underlying
water layer is reflecting the microwave
signal at the interface.
